Water Softener Installation in Fresno & Clovis
Stop the scale, the spots and the itchy skin. Nick tests your hardness at the sink, sizes the softener to your house, and installs it in about a day.
- Free hardness test — grains per gallon, at your kitchen sink
- Smart metered valve — regenerates on water used, not a timer
- USA-made softening resin and NSF-certified components
- Salt-free conditioner option if you'd rather not add salt

Why Fresno homes need a softener more than most.
Fresno pulls most of its water from about 260 groundwater wells, blended with surface water from the Kings and San Joaquin rivers. The city's own 2024 water quality report lists hardness from 65 to 190 mg/L — roughly 4 to 11 grains per gallon — and Clovis reports readings up to 290 mg/L. Which end of that range you get depends on the wells feeding your street, which is why we test before we quote. See the real numbers →
Above about 7 grains, calcium and magnesium start leaving scale inside your water heater, on your fixtures and on every glass out of the dishwasher. A softener swaps those minerals out at the point of entry, so every tap, shower and appliance in the house gets soft water.
Nick installs California Honest Water Co softeners with a smart metered valve: it counts the gallons you actually use and regenerates only when the resin is spent, instead of dumping salt on a timer every few nights. Less salt, less water, longer resin life.

Fresno Water Pros is the water division of Central Valley Home Upgrades, Nick's Fresno contracting company. These are his real customer reviews, word for word.
We had an excellent experience with Central Valley. Nick was responsive and helpful. His quote was less than half what a competitor quoted! Evan came to the house prepared for a replacement but was actually able to fix the problem within just a few minutes. I will definitely call again with any future needs. We highly recommend this company!
Nick was reasonably priced, especially for good quality work. He oversaw several workers in different phases. He was a good communicator and prompt. I would use him again for any project I might have.
Great service.. Nick was very timely, efficient, very reasonably priced and a pleasure to do business with.

Water Softeners questions, answered.
How do I know if I need a water softener?
If you see spots on glasses, white crust on fixtures, or your skin feels dry after a shower, your water is hard enough to matter. The free test gives you the exact grains-per-gallon number — above about 7, a softener pays for itself in appliance life and soap alone.
What size softener does my house need?
It depends on your hardness (grains per gallon), how many people live in the house and how much water you use. Nick sizes it from the test result and your household, not from a chart. An undersized softener regenerates constantly and wears out; an oversized one wastes money.
Salt-based or salt-free?
A salt-based softener actually removes the hardness minerals, so you get truly soft water: soap lathers, scale stops. A salt-free conditioner changes how the minerals behave so they don't stick as much, but the water still tests hard. If you want soft water, salt. If you mainly want to protect the water heater and can't have salt, salt-free. Full comparison →
How much salt does it use?
With a metered valve, a typical Fresno household uses a 40 lb bag every one to two months. Timer-based softeners use far more because they regenerate whether you used water or not.
Where does it get installed?
At the point of entry — usually the garage or an outside wall near the main shutoff. Nick runs clean copper connections and a bypass valve so you can service it without shutting off the house.
Will it affect my drinking water?
Softened water is fine for cooking and drinking for most people, but many of our customers pair the softener with a reverse osmosis system at the kitchen sink for bottled-quality drinking water. RO drinking water →
How long does a softener last?
With a quality valve and USA-made resin, 15–20 years is typical. The resin is the wear item; it's replaceable without replacing the whole unit.
What does a water softener cost in Fresno?
It depends on hardness, household size and whether you pair it with filtration. Nick gives you a written price at the free test, and the September Special is his best pricing of the year. What drives the price →
