What does a whole-house filter remove?
Chlorine, chemical taste and odor, and sediment. Coconut-shell carbon is very good at chlorine and the compounds that cause taste and smell. It does not soften water (that's a softener) and it is not a substitute for reverse osmosis at the drinking tap for dissolved solids.
Does it reduce water pressure?
Not when it's sized right. Nick sizes the tank to your home's flow rate so showers and appliances run exactly like before.
Whole-house filter or softener — which do I need?
If your problem is chlorine taste and smell, filtration. If it's scale, spots and dry skin, a softener. Most Fresno homes have both problems, which is why the two are usually installed together as one system.
How often does the carbon need replacing?
Whole-house carbon tanks typically run several years before the media is exhausted, depending on water use and chlorine level. Nick tells you the expected service interval in writing.
Is the water safe to drink after a whole-house filter?
